Fifteen color photographs taken during the July 1996 Mercury National race, likely the Junior Championship. From the Commodore’s Report by Minturn V. Chace in the 1996 Annual Report: “This was a Mercury year. Following up on the ideas and hard work of Class Captain Toby Elliman and Bob Brown, we held the first National Championship in several years. The Regatta drew 27 boats. Sparked by this interest, up to eight Mercuries raced in the July Series and four in August. Two years ago, no boats qualified in either July or August. Thus, we are bringing the Mercuries back.”
